Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, was one of the most mysterious cities of the world in 1980s because it was almost closed to the foreigners during that time. Mesopotamian ruins along the Tigris-Euphrates Rivers were the wonders to see. The Samarra tower was new but also quite appealing to us.

Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, has ancient historical remains. In 1980, Mitsubishi Corp. won the design/construction contract of the FestivitySquare project and Ehira designed the main facilities with seating stands, including a theater, movie house, cafes and shops as the park amenities.

Tropical Plant Conservatory was a result of the 1984 architectural competition sponsored by the Tokyo metropolitan government.Ehira at the time was in a partnership with another architect. His partner brought the project to the firm, but for a reason, Ehira took the responsibility of executing the design/supervision for the work.
Methane gas, produced under the sea water came up onto this man-made island and exploded killing two persons in the near-by building. Complex exhaust system was installed under the pit of the conservatory, and this meant the slab with the pit under had to support all the earth load on which the plants were sitting. For the structure, space frame system was employed to support the glass domes. The earth was heated by the hot water supplied by the incineration plant nearby.
